Quilts represent the rural heritage of Appalachia. Thatīs quite a large responsibility! It all began in Salem, Ohio, with a quilt made by Mary Harlan Henderson in her farmhouse in Harrison country about 70 years ago. That quilt has been carefully preserved by her family and has begun the "quilt" farm movement in Appalachia where there are now 20 quilt barns in several counties. These barns have generated so much enthusiasm that volunteers of all ages and backgrounds gather to show their favorite quilts. Goes to show, people love their heritage and traditions!
